Remote Learning
Remote Learning Guide for Parents
All remote education will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom account
Please contact the school office or class teacher if you have lost your login details.
At George Tomlinson we aim to ensure that our remote learning aligns as closely as possible with in-school provision and curriculum.
We expect our remote teaching and independent work will take pupils broadly 3 to 4 hours to complete each day.
We will provide at least 3 lessons per day in a range of formats.
Our remote teaching and learning offer will cover a range of curriculum areas within a day and across a week.
Please note that we do not expect work to be completed by children who are unwell.
How will my child be taught remotely?
Pupils will be taught through a range of approaches.
These will include:
- Work assignments via Google Classroom across all curriculum areas
- Live video lessons via Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams
- Reading books that pupils may have at home or that are sent home from school
- E-books available from school programmes
- Research
- Commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subject or areas, including video clips or sequences (please see website for many great examples you could use). For example Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
- We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. If you need support with a device or with online access, please contact us.
- Chrome books will be loaned to families that have limited/ no access to devices and all families eligible for Pupil Premium will have a Chromebook offered to them for use at home.
- Support with Wifi is available through Vodaphone SIM cards if required- please contact the office.
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
- We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils
- Teaching staff will differentiate work on Google Classroom to meet the needs of pupils (where appropriate)
If your child needs to access their Google Classroom and has trouble logging in, please email school@georgetomlinson.waltham.sch.uk
