Saluting our sisters art work 2023
Sat 28 Oct 2023Some of our children created portraits of the wonderful black women who work at George Tomlinson as part of the theme for Black History Month 2023 "saluting our sisters". We entered the portraits as 1 piece in the Waltham Forest Black History Month art competition and we came 2nd in our category!

Back to school September 2023
Tue 05 Sep 2023Back to school tomorrow!
We are all looking forward to welcoming the children in Years 1 -6 back to school as normal tomorrow.
You may have seen recent media coverage regarding Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and its use in educational settings. RAAC is a lightweight form of concrete; because it is weaker than regular concrete, concerns have been raised about its long-term durability. The Department for Education (DfE) has recently changed its guidance to education settings on the management of RAAC to take a more precautionary approach and to close or partially close some schools. We wanted to inform you that we are NOT affected by this decision and therefore we will continue to function as normal.
We are starting the year with all classes completing activities to support the setting of expectations, settling in and getting to know their new classes and staff members. These activities include, for example, researching class names (British birds), creating class charters, writing a letter to their future self and using their Maths knowledge to set "figure me out" challenges. Teachers will also be completing baseline assessments over the next 2 weeks.
Please ensure your child is in full school uniform tomorrow. Please note bracelets, necklaces and smart watches are not part of our school uniform.
Please be aware the weather will be hot this week - please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school and has applied sunscreen. We will be encouraging children to stay hydrated during the day.
There is a lot of information for parents and carers on our school website and app. Please visit the following pages to answer frequently asked questions:
If you need to contact your child's class teacher please do this through the school office school@georgetomlinson.waltham.sch.uk and the team will pass on your message.
Meet the Teacher meeting Years 1 - 6 on Tuesday 15th September at 5pm. This will be in school in your child's classroom and a chance for parents and carers to find out more abut the leaning in each year group, PE days, upcoming trips etc. PowerPoints for these meetings will be available on the year group pages of the website after the meetings.
Please drop your child off at the following gates. Your child will line up independently with their class in the playground.
Years 1 and 3 - small Harrington Road gate at bend in road. Years 2, 4, 5 and 6 - main playground though Vernon Road and Harrington Road gates.
There were a number of bikes and scooters left in school over the summer. These have been moved to the bike shed in the main Key Stage 2 playground along Vernon Road. Please collect these by the end Friday this week so that we can clear the bike shed for the new year.
See you tomorrow at 8:45am!
Nicola Wilson and the George Tomlinson team
