Welcome
George Tomlinson Primary is a wonderful school in the heart of our local community of Leytonstone. We are proud of our multi-cultural community, where all religions and nationalities are represented and celebrated. We strongly believe that education and learning is a ongoing process and is very much a partnership between home and school and we are proud of the part we play in our children's development.
We live out our vision of ‘Excellence through Enjoyment’.
We are:
Diverse, Happy, Creative, Inspiring and Ambitious in all we do.
At George Tomlinson we believe that all children deserve outstanding quality first teaching that is supported by excellent curricular opportunities and extended services that nurture and engage children. We aim to inspire brilliance in a stable and safe environment through creative practice. We want our pupils to feel that when it comes to aspirations the sky is the limit and to prepare them fully for life at secondary school and beyond. We believe in achieving Excellence through Enjoyment.
We have a large building and exciting learning and play areas for all ages. We have a dance studio, a multi-games area, an exciting Science playground, a rooftop space and a hidden field for learning outdoors off Vernon Road.
We have an engaging and challenging curriculum that is accessible for all pupils. We use In the Moment Planning in EYFS and a continuous provision Year 1 and a topic based curriculum in Years 2-6.
We offer instrumental music lessons across school and children have the opportunity to learn to play guitar, ukulele, recorder and violin and we love to sing in our weekly singing assemblies. We offer a range of exciting after school clubs, for example street dance, coding, rugby and karate. French is taught across school. Trips take place each term to extend our learning and children in Years 4 - 6 have the opportunity to take part in a residential over night trip. All our year groups visit a London art gallery each year.
The school was judged as Good in its last Ofsted inspection in 2018 and we have achieved Healthy Schools, ECO and ArtsMark status.
Ofsted had a very positive visit to our school in February 2018 commenting:
"Behaviour is good. Pupils are courteous and respectful. They understand the importance of persevering; their resilience helps them to try their hardest in lessons."
"The curriculum offers opportunities to write across a range of subjects and teachers use these to maximum effect. Pupils learn skills and techniques in their English lessons and have a chance to apply these in other subjects as well."
"There is a range of support for pupils’ emotional and mental well-being. Pupils praise the counselling service and know they can access it easily if they need to talk."
"Pupils’ physical well-being is promoted through the high-quality and wide-ranging sporting activities the school offers."
We hope our website gives you an insight into the exciting and creative learning at George Tomlinson as well as providing updated information for parents and carers, pupils and the community. Please let us know if you need any further information.
Best wishes,
